Areas of Practice
A prosthesis is an artificial device that replaces a missing body part, which may be lost through trauma, disease, or a congenital conditions. Prosthetics are intended to restore the normal functions of the missing body part and amputee rehabilitation is coordinated between a prosthetist and an inter-disciplinary team of health care professionals including your primary care physician, orthopedic surgeon, physical therapist, and/or occupational therapist.
High Performance Prosthetics
There are more than 21 million Americans living with a physical disability, many who are eligible to participate in sport activities. Research shows that daily physical activity enhances not only an individual's self-esteem and peer relationships but also results in increased achievement and better health, enabling a higher quality of life. We specialized in activity specific devices and continue to work with patients of all activity levels from Paralympic athletes to everyday patients turning disabilities into possibilities.
Orthoses are externally applied device used to modify the structural and functional characteristics of the neuromuscular and skeletal system. Orthotics control, guide, limit and/or immobilize an extremity, joint or body segment to restrict movement in a given direction, assist movement, reduce weight bearing, aid in rehabilitation or otherwise correct the shape and/or function of the body to provide easier movement capability and reduce pain.
Just like humans, animals may also benefit from orthotic and prosthetic devices, which contribute to improving and prolonging the quality of life of your animal suffering from temporary or permanent functional limitations. Impairments occur when the musculoskeletal system or neurological system is affected by trauma, disease or congenital disorder. We will work in close collaboration with your veterinarian and will determine the specific need relating to your animal’s physical disability needs.
